Rarely has an Australian band received as much consistent and widespread acclaim from critics and music fans alike as the Bondi Cigars.
When the band was first gigging around Sydney, late 1989, the Cigars moved in a blues/R&B circuit which, while robust enough since the 60s, had then been sparked into new life by the ‘blues revival’ of the mid-80’s, spearheaded by Robert Cray, Joe Louis Walker, Stevie Ray Vaughan and similar crusaders. And while many of the Sydney bands from that era have vanished, become historical footnotes or undergone major changes, the Cigars – true survivors – have battled on, without ever compromising their distinctive no nonsense style, to become a leading force in Australian R&B.
That original Cigars line-up brought together four like-minded experienced players, all veterans of Sydney inner-west blues venues, and from the word go, as the 1990 tracks demonstrate, the Cigars have been the very model of the ‘no passengers’ band, a well-oiled machine plus soul: no room for slackers here. Always one of the country’s hardest working outfits (on the road more than off), the Cigars have kept their music tight, hard-driving and down – to – earth: the Australian bar band par excellence.

Since those weekly TV performances in 2012 they have toured the USA, written and recorded in Nashville, for the last 6 years have toured all over Australia with Lee Kernaghan and have become one of the hottest live acts in country music. Their newest album release, Country Heart, is their 4th studio album and was recorded in Sydney with Aussie producer Matt Fell. 2018 was a huge year for the band culminating with their Country Heart album being nominated for Best Country Album at the 2018 ARIA Awards.
2019 kicked off with a bang when the band dominated at the Australian Country Music Awards where they were nominated for 5 Awards and took home 4 Golden Guitars. They won the coveted Album Of The Year for ‘Country Heart’, Contemporary Album Of The Year for ‘Country Heart’, Song Of The Year for ‘Ain’t Seen It Yet’ and they capped off an amazing night taking out Group Of The Year.
The first half of 2019 will see the band headlining their own shows around Australia and also performing at a number of festivals. Mid year the Wolfies hook up with their mate Lee Kernaghan and will again be touring with LK on his massive 50 date Australian Tour. Somewhere in the middle of all this touring the band will head to Nashville and Canada to write their next album.
The Wolfe Brothers continue to strive to deliver the best shows and albums they can to their fans. They are most comfortable performing live and anyone who has seen them will confirm that this is a band that puts 110% into every show they do.

Rock and roll is a genre of popular music that originated in the United States during the late 1940s and early 1950s.
The style is a combination of African-American blues, boogie woogie, jump blues, jazz & gospel, along with Western swing and Country music.
Although elements of rock and roll can be heard in blues recordings from the 1920s, and in country records of the 1930s, the genre didn’t acquire its name until the 1950s.
The initial response of the British music industry was, to attempt to produce exact copies of American records, but this changed in1958, when Britain produced its first “authentic” rock and roll song and star, as Cliff Richard and the Drifters reached number 2 in the charts with “Move it”.
Following this success, a flood of guitar based bands formed in Britain. This led to the music of many British groups, including The Beatles, have their music travel back across the Atlantic in a period which came to be known as The British Invasion.
Seasoned entertainers — John Smith with Peta Smith with their band “The Journey—
Perform hits from the early US stars.
From Elvis’ bluesy “Heartbreak Hotel” to rockabilly hits of “Bill Haley”, “Buddy Holly” & “Eddie Cochrane”, to the cool “Ricky Nelson & more.
Included are songs from the girls that started it all— From “Connie Francis”, to “Patsy Cline”, & more.
Then there’s the Twangy Guitar of “Duane Eddy”, The raging tenor saxophone of “The Champs”, the Farfisa organ of “Johnny & The Hurricanes”, the trumpet of “Herb Alpert”, the Surf Guitar of “The Chantays” & “The Surfaris“ & that’s just in the first half.
The second half starts with a “Beatle Classic” before stepping back to the start of British pop with Cliff’s Richard’s “Move it”.
A mixed bag of British hits follow —
These include songs by “Dave Clark Five”, “The Spenser Davis Group”, “Herman’s Hermits”, “The Animals”
“Gerry & The Pacemakers”.
Here come the girls again!
You’ll enjoy the music of “Dusty Springfield”, Cilla Black & “Petula Clark”.
Also featured are the instrumental hits of & including “The Tornados” “Telstar”, “Aka Bilks” “Stranger on the Shore”,
“The Shadows”, “Wonderful Land” & “Apache”.
Mixed these great hits with a story line, plenty of “one liners”, a fabulous band with 3 piece horn section, audience participation, costume change & some great arrangements & you will travel across the Atlantic on a night of musical memories!
