HISTORY

We're all part of the story.

At the start of 2022, the club envisioned a celebration that promoted cultural collaboration and inclusivity. Giving voice to many different cultures and, importantly, featuring First Nations Australians, Australia In Harmonie was born.

On 26th January of the same year, the Harmonie German Club was graced by a stellar line up of First Nations and multicultural artists and a variety of market stallholders. With the help of First Nations artist Dale Huddleston, Clandestino Canberra and the support of the Australian Government through the National Australia Day Council, we put together two stages of multicultural artists curated to paint a rich story of history, diversity and culture.

We thought this more accurately reflected a relevant picture of today’s Australia — a multicultural nation.

26th January

A day to reflect, respect and celebrate.

On 26th January, 2022, we had a stellar line-up of First Nations and multicultural artists and markets.

Performers included Tallianna Muhunga, Kim Yang, Canberra School of Bollywood, Summar Barratt, Stewart Barton, Prosperous Mountain Dragon & Lion Dance, Raio de Sol, Zambezi Sounds, Maori Cultural Group, The Faumuis, Anton Wurzer, Nancy Bates, Monica Moore, Dale Huddleston & The Riverbank Band and BREWN’.

Market stalls included 2WP, ABCD,  Acahua, Add-a-Card, Africart, Arts Desire & Cracts, Brooches & Bling, Canberra Popup Traders, Carole’s Fairies, Day of the Dead Fiesta, EMM Scents, ENJO Cleaning Products, Funky Frog, Jane Bayles, Kool’n’Krazy Records, Preloved & Vintage, Resinboards, Seabrook Candles, Stylish Possums, The Ultimate Jewellery Collection, Unter den Linden, Your Passivhaus and Vintage Vamps.

We also had a jumping castle, an artifacts workshop and a collaborative hands mural art workshop.

Despite dancing not being allowed and the then-recent announcement of the Omicron wave, we still had at least 1,800 patrons come through to join the event.

On 26th January, 2023, we held a similar event embracing the ethos of 2022. Australia in Harmonie 2023 celebrated the depth of talent, incredible passion and poignant storytelling of first nations artists as well as performers from a wide range of different cultures.

Join us in 2024 as we reflect and respect together, on a day which challenges each Australian to do greater, listen more, and be better.
