The Canberra Burly Griffins

By Community Groups
We are the first buhurt (medieval combat) team in the ACT and your favourite Buhurt teams' favourite Buhurt team!

From the French word “Behourd” The term evolved from an old French word meaning "to wallop" or "batter”. Buhurt developed in the 13th century as a way for knights in feudal Europe to hone their combat skills while putting on a public spectacle.
To Win: Knock the opposing fighters down! Make them Surrender!! Team with the last Knight standing wins!!!
Buhurt was used as a means to train fighters and display prowess without accidentally killing nobles or competitors.
Sources from history show the use of blunt weapons, and rules similar to the modern sport. Melees can range from bouts of two versus two up to 150 versus 150.
Buhurt is a test of teamwork, strength, resilience and desire for violence.

Buhurt is Medieval combat, and is a test of teamwork, strength, resilience and desire for violence.

Our Probus club has some 70 members at present.  It is an all-male club, but occasionally when there is an appropriate Speaker we invite wives, partners and lady guests to the meetings.

Typically the meeting commences at 09.30am with club business, followed by a club speaker.  Then, at 10.30am, we adjourn for morning tea until 11.00am when the guest speaker gives his or her address.  The meeting concludes at midday, though some members then choose to attend a luncheon in a nearby restaurant with the guest speaker.
